Picket Fencing

Change in blue and red
Posterboy for the American something
Everybody's got a tea party to get to or some
Park or some FB wall to occupy
Discontent...jobs economy some-such-bullshit
The Cops shut down the protests.

Snowdennet is out to catch rabbit trails
And all your emails
And the shoe rule at the airport ensures exactly one thing:
That those unimaginative enough to try a terrorist attack
Exactly like one that came before it will be foiled.
A pat(down) on the back gives you a nice illusion of safety.

Your little white spikes on the front lawn
Aren't fooling no rabbits or robbers.
And your security system won't do you no good
When the reckoning comes.

The government is repeatedly eviscerated and blown to
Smithereens through film:  Independence Day, Red, Avengers,
Nikita, X-Men: Future Past.  There are demons in the machine.
Press pause for a minute, thank your stars,
And take a look at that nice border fence that walls in your
Your manicured utopian green.

"How are you?"
"It's been tough."
But you've already moved on with those nice picket teeth
Peeking out of a red lawn.

The problems are much more complicated than the books make it seem.
Touché.
But that still doesn't mean
We can't do anything.

I've got a five point plan to steal all the chain-link and
1x6s in this town,
Then take torches to the illusions
Of separations
You've got around.

I'm tired of table talk,
I'm tired of pretending like we're not
All damaged
I'm tired of pretending like
The world's okay.

So I'm sorry about the white 1x4 in
My eye, got me seeing red,
But no, I will not come down,
Until I see the lawns burning.

Deus Ex Machina

Lewis' severed head speaks
On an array of fifteen-inch screens
Digital GOD save us from the inconvenient
Truths of our lives
The mangled wires we hold inside
The trillions of dollars on an F-35
That promises we'll all get to sleep tonight.

Cayalá

Creating a perfect world.

Intentionally left off the bus routes
There are no sidewalks to reach
The white city.
Only the carred, with their magic flying
Machines, can ascend its heights.

A coffee shop, the meat market, the Cinépolis
They even had Justin Bieber play a show
A church at the end of the street.
Cameras keeping you safe.
There are men with shotguns at the gate.

Down the hill in the ravine is La Limonada
Gangs with knives and pistols and machetes
Decide who enters
Families of seven sleep on dirt floors and
Use old signage for two walls and roofing.
The meat market would refer to the sex trade.
The river is a garbage-strewn public sewage drain.

The screen shows people smiling, families walking in walled-off parks
Sitting on the steps, business-people with Starbucks who never have to leave
Their castle in the foamed clouds.

Creating a perfect world.
For anybody who has the money,
And can shut their eyes to sleep.

Falling Down the Well

Falling down the well
Leaving
Grasping at the stones along the side
You were the stone
Crushing me when I hit bottom

You're here in my heart
But you've got no voice
Tell me you feel something
Reject me, hurt me, love me, stop me
Falling into the floor and I just keep going
And the river keeps flowing.

Last Summer

Edit
Bikini eyes
Fear and trembling
Openness
You said you trust me.
You said you don't know why.

Camouflage
Contact
Splattered paint
Crouching for cover
You told me to watch your back

Rain dance
Sunset
Chased by dogs
Trespass
And a hand in my hand.

Eyelids lined
Lost in the music
Dancing but we never
Stopped talking
You said you were good at hugs

Fun.
You open a wide freckled
Smile and
I don't know if I've ever
Felt like this.

Scattered wheat
Yellow jackets
Fresh breeze
Stiff climb
You told me you were scared

The aching almost
Walking circles over waters
The angst of not being honest with ourselves
You were leaving
We controlled ourselves
In love
But letting go
Because of love.
