All the Flowers of the Field (song)

All the flowers of the field
Dance wildly and happy
They catch the breeze with their fingers
As if they'll fly away
Faces upturned to the sun
Tracking like satellite dishes
With faces oh so bright
I thought I'd join them for a while

And we sang redemption songs
We sang our racous praise
And our lips were always parted
As we laughed, kissed the sky or prayed
And we sang

You are so beautiful
Oh Father Sun
Let's stay here forever
In the warm

The autumn always comes
The breeze cuts into my soul
All the flowers of the field
They grow grey and they grow old
All the fields become graveyards
That's where I met a rose
I saw in her the summer
I saw her fine red clothes
I thought if I could pluck her
And keep her in a vase
I'd have a ray of sunshine
For all my rainy days
But flowers love the fresh breeze
Rather than wilt she walked away
And that thorn that she left me
Left a wound that I can't shake
And I sang

You are so beautiful
Oh sister rose
Since you've been gone
I've been feeling so cold

All the flowers of the field
Began to bloom again in force
But one broken heart could trample
All the beauty in the world
They put plastic on their petals
Tied their leaves with rubber bands
Colored themselves with paints in hopes
The singing would begain
Again.  They feared the sun would burn them

And we are so beautiful
Broken as we are
Behind the masks
There's sunshine in everyone

I prayed to all the flowers
Hoping they could make me sing
I chewed them, kissed them, I asked nicely
And I suppose that that was better
Than praying to a TV screen
I remember when the sunshine
Used to burn inside of me
Oh God if you're still with me
Have mercy please

We were so beautiful
We whored it all away
Let's hide now
Let's hide our shame

A flower in the shadows knows
That it must reach for the light
I don't know if this is reaching you
But I need you here tonight

Why did you let me go away?
Why did you leave me in the grey?
Why did you come knocking on my door,
Knowing I'm the one to blame.
I'll take a flower, take a fall
I'll take whatever you can bring
But sunshine would just burn up
A wretch like me

Oh burn me up
I've no light left
Inside of me

Cascades

Spring cascades down from glaciers
Brimming, swimming, glittering from sunlit canals
Stirring the bark to bud,
Blossoming into snow white apricots
And cherry pinks.
The knobby hardened stems,
Callouses of winter bulge and burst
Into green fireworks
And the rains play xylophone on the sidewalk.

There's warmth inside of me
We lounge under waterfalls and let
The cold pounding massage our backs
We leap from rocks and fall into blue waters
With a splash.
The clouds are crisp as starched collars,
The skies even deeper blue than your eyes.

They say that Love is in the air,
But I think it's Life.
They say that "summer's almost here"
But your hand is already inside mine.
